Particularity and quality of engineering technology in ECAM engineering

ECAM Engineering is a new and innovative program that has been approved for launch in September 2016 by ECAM Lyon. This unique program is the first of its kind in France as it is taught entirely in English and gives students an opportunity to lay a strong academic foundation in a culturally diverse environment.
As ECAM Lyon is recognized for its high performance in industrial and technology education, the ECAM Engineering program will help students in developing the necessary skills to select one of two major disciplines in technology that matches their strengths and interests: robotics at Staffordshire university or industrial design at Politecnico di Torino which are among Europe’s best universities with which ECAM Lyon collaborates. Students will be awarded a dual degree from both ECAM Lyon and the collaborating university.
One of the main areas of focus in “ECAM Engineering” is engineering technology. With an important emphasis on theoretical knowledge, math, physics, mechanics, and design, students get more applied “hands-on experience” in laboratories and coursework. They will be prepared to devote all the applied sciences, including mathematics and engineering fundamentals, to the implementation of technology solutions to solve and analyze engineering problems helping students to develop the most important skills needed in the fourth year of study for the two disciplines. They also improve their research skills by developing innovative engineering projects in their final year of study.
During the first three years students acquire fundamental knowledge of technical design, such as mechanism design and analysis, technological functions, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Computer Aided Design (CAD), etc. Then, theoretical mechanical design developments are completed by experiential learning activities in support of manufacturing engineering and technology. The students apply and analyze existing technologies with hands-on experience by providing the fundamentals of manufacturing processes, instrumentation, metrology, Computer Numerical Control (CNC), and other technical skills. They also develop these technical implementations for the benefit of humanity by reflecting ethical values for technology research and development. Meanwhile, students develop their multidisciplinary skills through exciting and interactive projects with other engineering branches like mechanics or physics, allowing them to effectively integrate into engineering teams in the industry.
Therefore, the quality of our developed program will prepare graduates for engineering technology. The program is reinforced with experiential learning designed especially to enhance the theoretical background and stimulate innovation.
