ECAM Engineering Program

International program in Lyon, France

A 5-year combined undergraduate & graduate program

2 Concentrations:

  • Robotics
  • Industrial Design

This innovative engineering course, taught entirely in English, is accredited by the French Accreditation Board (CTI) and meets the European and international requirements in terms of Master’s level awards. It was developed by ECAM Lyon, “Grande Ecole” or top engineering school, founded in France in 1900. The campus is located in the heart of the city and the historical center of Lyon, which is the main metropolitan area of the Auvergne Rhône-Alps region.

The demand for engineers in France and elsewhere is greater than the number of qualified graduates. International companies are attracted to France for its highly skilled workforce. They are recruited into all sectors of industry and service providers: transportation, luxury, research laboratories, finance, capital goods industry, etc. 28% of ECAM Lyon graduates, who all have international experience, start their career abroad. The average starting salary abroad for young engineers with a degree of ECAM Lyon is €38,000 per year.

The 5-year program in Electrical & Mechanical Engineering is a combined undergraduate & graduate course that leads to the ECAM Lyon Engineering Degree, the equivalent of a Master’s Degree*. Students choose from one of the following concentrations: Robotics and Industrial Design. *Visit the AACRAO website for further information on the recognition of the French Diplôme d’Ingénieur in the USA.

All classes are taught in English. In addition to English, at the end of the program, students must demonstrate proficiency in 2 other languages : French and 1 other language (Italian, German or Spanish).

With the objective of reaching the minimum proficiency level, students are offered foreign language courses throughout the 5 years.

To facilitate integration in Lyon and France, modules in French culture are also offered.

Each semester corresponds to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), 300 for the Master’s Degree.  Students who successfully complete this international engineering program acquire key skills and competencies in the following areas:

  • The core subjects essential to all fields of engineering: mathematics, physics and chemistry.
  • Engineering sciences: primarily mechanical, electronic and electrical, and industrial engineering, and material sciences. Students are trained to be highly skilled designers with a strong scientific and technical background.
  • Production and processes: to enable future engineers to design production tools in the areas of robotics, technology or mechanics.
  • Industrial project management: to be capable of taking into account the use of a product during the design stages and anticipate its future integration in complex systems.
  • Management skills: for a better understanding of a company’s innovation and development processes and ability to create value.
  • Intercultural communication: to enable effective professional interactions in the world of science and technology, not only through foreign language skills, but also thanks to a better cross-cultural understanding.
  • Professional experience: Students apply their knowledge while developing professional skills and technical know-how through 9 to 10 months of internships that are an integral part of their curriculum.
